About the Founder

Hi!

My name is Katherine and welcome to K+ tutoring!

Over seven years ago, I had my first private tutoring session. My neighbour had asked if I could help her Year 4 daughter with Mathematics. I went over to my neighbour’s house and was greeted by her nine-year-old daughter who was struggling to tell time on an analog clock. I brought over with me a toy analog clock that my siblings and I had played with as children. For the next hour, I patiently explained the process of how to tell time.

For my Year 10 self, who was learning complex Algebra at the time, this topic was refreshingly and nostalgically simple. But for this young student, this topic had hidden intricacies that were making it very difficult for her to understand. After a few more practice questions, the confidence started to build, and I even had a few “a-ha!” moments. At the end of the session, I updated my neighbour on the progress that we had made. Then she asked me how much she owes me and if I could come back next week.

I was so surprised as I processed this information. I could get paid for this? I could get paid for this consistently? It was like a dream-come true. A job that finally lived up to the famous quote “if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life”. Over 7 years later, I am still tutoring that, now much older, student.

My love and passion for tutoring developed further when I had the opportunity to go on a volunteer program to Cambodia in Year 11. This key experience helped me realise the importance of the human right to an education and ignited my goal of making quality education accessible to as many students as possible.

My philosophy with tutoring is simply to show a commitment to learning that develops confident, creative and successful learners who are also active and informed citizens. I hope to inspire students to realise that, even though they might not be naturally gifted in a subject, with a transformed mindset and work ethic, they will achieve both academic and lifelong success.

I hope that K+ tutoring will be the community that helps students find and pursue their passions, by working with someone who has already found hers.

All the best,

Katherine Pinto (Founder of K+ Tutoring)
